so I went to a bar one day, and well, a particular type of job struck me as well... a little interesting, so I ask you all, could a blind person be a bar tender? Let me know what you all think.

I don't see why not. I seriously think that others would have a different opinion, but I don't forsee any major challenges. You would have to learn to mix drinks and such, but that isn't a monumental task in my opinion. You will need to be aware of your surroundings and know who is where and be able to recognize and relate to your regular customers. But again, this isn't a monumental task either.

I doubt it's possible. Consider the fact you need to be able to pull a pint. you need to learn the angles of the glass so as not to fill with froth. That's fine, maniagable but how do you figure the level? you can't use your finger, it's unhygenic, you would need to sterilise a liquid level indicator after every drink, and that's supposing you could hear it's tone through all the noise in the bar. I've picked on the point most important to me as a beer drinker, though I'm sure there are many other reasons.

Agree with Kev, you also have to know exactly who ordered what (make your way through a crowded bar with a tray in your hands, without a cane unless you can train a guide dog to carry the tray for ya ;) you'd get tremendous tips if that worked out), and you'd have to be 100% sure on your change when people give you notes, in the U.S. at least you can't tell what note it is based on size so you'd have to have someone check the money for you every time you get cash.
I don't really see how this would work, it'd be cool actually but I can't see how you would pull it off.
cheers

also ther eis the task of knowing when enough is enough, dealing with drunks who aren't the most socially acceptable people at the best of times hehe. seperate thoughs who have been served from thoughs who haven't, keep your bar top clean, pick up dirty glasses from tables in your venue, keep your whole work space clean at all times. and mixing cocktails would be very difficult. a lot of the reason people lick certain cocktails, is because of the way the different ingredience are mixed in the glass. it's a very visual thing to get the paterns/layering effect right. so while I think it would be very romantic and exciting to do the whole cocktail waitress in tthe tropical islands of far north queensland, or the caribian. It is something I will never do hehe.

You could do shots out of a licker gun since that automatically measures it.

no, the closest you understand to that is spelt with a U to replace the A. and you wouldn't be able to consider it propperly considering you're not really blind.
